What is photography?
That's a simple question right? It's taking pictures. To be honest with you it's much more than that.
By definition photography is "the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light on a sensitive surface" or simply put capturing light. In most cases now it is literally capturing rays of light that are bouncing from an object to a sensor. But enough of the science side...
What Really is Photography Then?
The answer to the question will vary depending on who you ask. Some people love to take photos while others want to just enjoy them. Photography to some may be a way to provide for their family while for others it may be a hobby. Some may view it as the ultimate way of treasuring memories while others see it as a complete waste of money because "my phone can take pictures just as good." Some people can look at a picture and know exactly how it was created while others have no clue.
You see.... Photography ultimately is art.
My view on Photography?
I feel as though Aristotle said it best when he said: “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.”
Photography to me is capturing a moment in time that has never happened before and that will never happen again. Photography to me is also the best way to hold onto the moments in our life that are so dear to us. Photography to me is making the ideas and visions in your mind become a reality.
