Welcome to TTL!
Hi! I'm Jonathon and I am so excited you are here for the beginning of this new journey for me. I’ll be honest with you... I have never been a huge fan of writing so when God started to lay the thought of starting a blog on my heart it was immediately met with an internal battle of "why the heck would you ever want to do that" and "you know, it could actually be fun." I guess now we see which side of the battle won. So why did I ultimately decide to start this journey of TTL?
Why a blog??
For about a year and a half now there's been this small voice in my head pushing me to start a blog and I have pushed back in every way imaginable from "I can't stand writing" to "What would I even begin to write about?" My personal favorite though and the one I believe I have used the most is "No one would ever actually want to read what you have to say." I personally feel as though this thought (while on the surface seems simple enough) completely encompasses a bigger issue. You see, one of my biggest weaknesses is self doubt or feeling like what I'm doing is just not quite enough. We live in a society now where every single thing is constantly having to be upgraded... Where, by the time you finally save up and buy that new (fill in the blank) they release the newest and don't you know "so much better than that last version" and you now are faced with a feeling of needing more. We do this with ourselves all the time (often never realizing it.) If only I made more money, if only I had a nicer car, if only I had more friends, if only... you started a blog... Well here goes nothing
Who am I?
That's a loaded question... I'm kidding... Maybe?
My name is Jonathon. The two most important things in my life are Faith and Family. While I am the one behind the camera, I wear many other hats. I am a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a teacher, a photographer, a musician, a leader, a follower. But most importantly to me, I am me. I tell you all of this to ultimately say these hats will have a large influence on the content of this blog. Yes it is a photography site and the title is a photography reference but forgive me in advance if I happen to focus on something that is not exactly related to photography.
What exactly is TTL?
Before I go any farther into the blog I feel as though I should fill you in on the inspiration behind the name for the blog. In the world of photography there is an incredible little feature that allows your flash and camera to communicate and make adjustments based on the available light and the lights you are planning to add. This feature is amazing... until it's not. You see, Through the Lens (or TTL) works on what it thinks is best... Don't get me wrong the results can be alright and sometimes it even nails it but more times than not it is close but needs just a little adjustment to make it what you actually want.
Through my Lens...
My goal with this blog is similar. I know I don't have all the answers however God has seen me through so much in my life and has been calling me to begin this blog for quite some time now. I will never claim to be perfect or to give you "amazing results every time." My hope is that I can share my thoughts and my experiences with you all and maybe somebody will be able to take something and grow as well.
